Thursday fire damages Holmestown home

 A Thursday night structure fire in the Holmestown community has left one person displaced.

According to Liberty County Fire Services Chief Brian Darby, units from the Liberty County Fire Services arrived on scene to a residential fire on the 200 block of Westfield Road. When the initial units arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

Additional units were called in to battle the fire, which was brought under control within an hour.  

The wood frame home was determined to be uninhabitable and the Red Cross was called into assist the male occupant.

The origin of the fire was determined to have stemmed from cooking.

The Red Cross provided comfort kits, direct client assistance, and recovery planning to the families to meet their disaster-caused needs.
