A fire Monday afternoon has displaced a Hinesville family after their home was damaged by flames and smoke.

The fire occurred on the 1000 block of Meredith Lane, leaving a couple and their infant child displaced.

According to interim Hinesville Fire Department Deputy Chief Kevin Bechert, the fire began shortly after 4 p.m. An adult and the infant were inside the home at the time the fire broke out. They got out of the house safely and were not injured in the fire.

The origin of the fire is under investigation and was relegated mainly to the first floor of the two-story home. The Red Cross was not called in.
