Fire fighters battle blaze at St. John's Road home
St. Johns Road fire
Walthourville fire fighters work to extinguish a blaze at a St. John's Road home Tuesday evening.

A man and his dog are without a home tonight after a fire destroyed his home on the 200 block of St. John’s Road shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The home owner said he and his dog made it out of the home without injury. As he watched the flames engulf the roof of his home, he said he had a 1934 classic vehicle inside the garage, which sustained most of the damage.

The man said he has lived in the home since 1992.

It took the Walthourville Fire Department, along with mutual aid from the Hinesville Fire Department, nearly 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire consumed a large portion of the roof. Flames reached several feet into the night sky as firefighters fought the blaze.
