Swimmers got more than fun in the sun when they went to the LCRD swimming pool in Stafford Park on Tuesday morning. A three-foot alligator had decided he was going to be first in. Liberty County Animal Control Officers Randy Durrence and Gary Bell worked together and Bell finally lassoed the reptile, to the cheers and squeals of joy and excitement from children waiting their turn in the pool. Rec officials checked the pool to ensure everything was safe before opening it to the children. After taping the gator’s mouth Durrence and Bell said they got DNR permission to release it in a canal near Riceboro.
