Former Riceboro Councilman Chris Stacy was appointed as the city's new mayor at a special called meeting Wednesday. Two candidates had applied for the position left vacant after the death of Mayor Joseph Harris on Sept. 21, 2021, but one candidate withdrew his application.

Stacy will serve the remaining two-year term. Stacy will be sworn in on Dec. 28 at 3 p.m., location to be determined.
