The National Weather Service, Charleston has issued a freeze warning in effect from 10 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. tomorrow for the following local areas:
Inland, Liberty, Bryan, Chatham and McIntosh Counties. Long, Jenkins, Screven, Candler, Bulloch, Effingham, Tattnall and Evans Counties.
The NWS stated sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28-30 degrees is expected. Freezing conditions may kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS encourages everyone to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
Pets should be housed indoors overnight or in shelter protected from the extreme cold.
