A traffic stop Tuesday morning nearly turned deadly for a Georgia State Patrol Trooper.

On Tuesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Georgia State Patrol to investigate an officer involved shooting in neighboring McIntosh County.

According to a press release issued by GBI and Special Agent in charge Stacy Carson of the Kingsland Office, at approximately 9:21 a.m., a Georgia State Patrol Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle Southbound on Interstate 95 near Mile marker 61. During the course of the traffic stop the driver of the vehicle identified as Sasha Ann Pishko, 20, of Clermont, Fla., managed to drive off hitting the Trooper with her vehicle. The Trooper fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. Pishko then drove a short distance before wrecking the vehicle. Pishko was pronounced dead on scene. An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday at the GBI Crime lab in Pooler to determine the cause and manner of death.

As of press time Tuesday, the Trooper was being treated for minor injuries at Liberty Regional Medical in Hinesville.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation that is active and ongoing. Once completed, the investigation will be turned over to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
