“Hank” White Golf Tourney recognizes scholarship winners

The annual golf tournament in memory of the late Henry “Hank” White was held at Cherokee Rose Country Club Aug. 3. Recipients of the 2019 scholarship awards from Bradwell Institute, Liberty County High School, First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the community were recognized during the event.  

Scholarship recipients had to submit an essay and letters of recommendation which were judged by a committee to determine the winners.  Winners received $1,000 each.  The scholars recognized were Vernesha Brown who will attend Kennesaw State University, Jolie Komlan who will attend Georgia Southern University, Michael Hagerty who will attend University of Georgia, Jamie Johnson who will attend Georgia Southern University, Preston Slayton who will attend Augusta University, Andrew Smith II who will attend Fort Valley State University and Cecilia Taylor who is attending Georgia State University. 

First place team members were Jason Follo, Clay Kicklighter, Joseph F. Whitaker, and Joseph M. Whitaker, second place team members were John Best, Will Bowman, Alvin Jackson, and Charles Weems, third place team members were William Hall, Al Porter, Art Warren, and Doris Warren.  Prizes were also awarded to Mike Tussey for the longest drive on Hole 2, straightest drive to Pocha Warren on Hole 14, longest putt to Joseph Whitaker on Hole 18, closest to pin to Norman Loving on Hole 7, closest to pin to Harry Middleton on Hole 13, and closest to pin to Bobby Hunt on Hole 17.

The Henry “Hank” White Memorial Scholarship Committee thanks the community for their continued support through the years.
