The Hinesville Fire Department will host a “Car Seat Safety Checks” event with Georgia’s Department of Public Health and Yellow Dot Program on Tuesday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station 1 located at 308 S. Commerce Street in Downtown Hinesville.

The safety checks consist of free car seat inspections, education on installation, and looking for recalls. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 325 children under 5 are saved by car seats in one year.

The Hinesville Fire Department’s car seat safety checks have been offered to the community at no cost for over 24 years. This free service is provided at Fire Station 1 or 2 (640 Airport Road) 24 hours a day, seven days a week; no appointment is necessary. Firefighters are certified Child Safety Seat Technicians they ensure seats are properly installed and fitted for the child. It is crucial to have a properly fitted and installed seat to prevent injury and even save lives. Another item on the checklist is to look for recalls on the car seats being inspected. The Public Safety Education division of the Hinesville Fire Department continuously offers free education to the community through interactive events. “We invite the community to join us for our ‘Car Safety Checks’ event,” said deputy fire marshal Marta Cuevas.
