The Hinesville Police Department is investigating a shooting which took place the morning of Jan. 23, 2022.
According to Assistant Police Chief, Major Tracey Howard, Officers from HPD responded to Liberty Regional Medical Center to investigate a report of two men being treated for gunshot wounds.
Howard said a subsequent investigation revealed that 32-year-old Quincy Cooper and 24-year-old Quentin Jones were shot in the parking adjacent to the Stafford Pavilion at Liberty Independent Troop Park in Hinesville, located off East Oglethorpe Highway. According to Howard, it is believed that the two men were shot after an altercation involving their female companions.
Howard said the altercation started at the “Good to Go” Jamaican restaurant in Flemington and carried on into Hinesville. Both Cooper and Jones were treated at Liberty Regional Medical Center and released later that day.
On the evening of Jan. 24, detectives with the Hinesville Police Department, with the assistance of the Liberty County Sherriff’s Office Special Reaction Team, served a search warrant at the residence of Ashley Akins, 34.
Akins was arrested on warrants for aggravated assault.
