A Hinesville was scammed out of her savings after receiving a call on last Tuesday her 57-year-old daughter had been arrested.
According to a Hinesville incident report filed by Officer Christina Lopez, the woman said she had received a call from a woman who identified herself as her daughter crying hysterically. After the woman hung up, she received another call from someone who identified themselves as a Fort Stewart employee, stating her daughter had been arrested and it would require a cash bond of $16,000 to release her.
The woman told the caller she didn’t have $16,000 but could provide $8,000. The caller said they would take half and a courier would be sent to the home to pick it up.
Later that morning, a woman, identified as a 5-foot-2 Black woman weighing around 140 pounds and appearing to be between 20 and 30 years old, came to the victim’s house. That woman, driving what was said to be either a white or silver Chevrolet Malibu, called herself Keyona.
Afterward, the victim called her daughter and learned she was at home and unaware of the situation. After learning her daughter was OK, she immediately called the Hinesville Police Department to report the encounter.
