The Hinesville Police Department is investigating the death of a man which they reported happened early Monday morning.
According to Hinesville Police Criminal Investigation Division Commander, Capt. William Oberlander, and an incident report filed by Hinesville Police Officer, Tristian Bethea, Tevin Hendrix was found dead shortly after 5:30 a.m. in front of a building in the 800 block of Willowbrook Drive.
According to the incident report, Bethea was dispatched to Willowbrook Drive after a woman called 911 to report a man had been walking around the building with cuts on his wrist.
When Bethea arrived in the parking lot of the apartment complex he noticed the man lying on the grass. Bethea walked over to Hendrix and observed blood on his forearms. Hendrix was faced down in the ground with his arms outstretched and his feet crossed.
Bethea tried talking to Hendrix, but the officer got no response.
The officer checked Hendrix for a pulse. Unable to feel a pulse he turned him over onto his back. That is when the officer saw a large hole or cut on Hendrix's right side near his armpit.
The officer reported Hendrix had his eyes open but remained unresponsive, Bethea stepped away from Hendrix and awaited the arrival of emergency medical personnel.
Oberlander reported that Hendrix died from a gunshot wound. Oberlander was unable to provide further details on the case, but did emphasize there was no danger to the public and the incident remains under investigation.
