On Thursday, Sept. 20, Kenneth Shaw tendered his resignation from the post of District 5 Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem of the Hinesville City Council, according to a city of Hinesville news release.

“While this is not a decision I arrived at easily, it is one that I feel like is necessary and in the best interest of my district and my city, both of which I love dearly,” said Shaw in a formal letter of resignation.

Shaw has served on the Hinesville City Council for about 19 years in five consecutive terms.

The City of Hinesville will be releasing more information at a later date in regards to the vacant District 5 council seat, according to the release.

The Courier had received numerous comments from readers during the past month, inquiring as to why Shaw had not been attending city council meetings.

Former council member Shaw was unable to be reached for comment via telephone by press time Friday.

In the past, Shaw campaigned on road improvements and continuance of city projects.
