BREAKING: LCDA to hold Riceboro public information session on treatment plant proposals
LCDA

The Liberty County Development Authority (LCDA) invites residents to attend a public information meeting regarding the proposed water reclamation facility (WRF) on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at the Riceboro Youth Center at 5649 South Coastal Highway.

The July 13 meeting will provide an overview of the proposed project, review alternatives currently under consideration, and share the latest information available regarding environmental studies, engineering evaluations, and the regulatory review process. Representatives from the project team will be available to answer questions and hear community feedback.

The meeting is part of LCDA’s ongoing commitment to share information, answer questions, and gather community input as it continues evaluating options for addressing Liberty County’s long-term wastewater and water resource needs.

Continuing its exploration of the best possible options for a modern wastewater system to serve Liberty County, LCDA has submitted a request for a wasteload allocation to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) for possible outfall locations on the North Newport River near Interstate 95 on the City of Midway side of the tidal basin.

The recent closure of the International Paper mill in Riceboro may significantly reduce discharge into that system, creating the potential to introduce clean, highly treated water at a much lower capacity. A wasteload allocation has been received for the previously identified Laurel View River location.

"Citizen input remains an important part of this process as we continue evaluating all viable options," said LCDA Board Chairman and state Representative Al Williams. "We encourage residents to attend, ask questions, and learn more about the work being done to identify the most responsible long-term solution for Liberty County."

“Our community is rooted in history, strengthened by unity, and committed to a bright future,” said Riceboro Mayor Chris Stacy. “The benefits of protecting water quality, supporting responsible growth, and investing in critical infrastructure extend beyond any single community or river, and I appreciate the thoughtful engagement from all those who care so deeply about their neighbors and the future of Liberty County."

Residents who are unable to attend may submit questions or comments by email to info@comegrow.global.
