The Liberty County High School FFA Chapter celebrated National FFA Week, February 1721. FFA Week revolves around embracing the community and honoring over 90 years of FFA tradition. During FFA Week, over 700,000 FFA members from around the nation help contribute to this agenda by participating at local, state, and national events. These members have a passion for agriculture, leadership, and community involvement.
National FFA week is a time for FFA members to raise awareness about the National FFA organization’s role in developing future leaders in agriculture and the importance of agriculture education.
Designated a national week in 1947, the week of George Washington’s birthday, National FFA Week runs from Saturday to Saturday and gives FFA members an opportunity to educate the public about agriculture. During the week, chapters conduct a variety of activities to help others in their school and community learn about FFA and agricultural education.
The Liberty County High School Chapter celebrated FFA Week through a wide variety of activities. Before FFA Week even began, LCHS FFA members hosted a CTAE social to celebrate all of the career and technical student organizations at Liberty County High School. The social included games, music, food, and members of FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, JROTC, and HOSA had a great time.
To highlight and promote the “Living to Serve” part of the FFA motto, FFA members participated in a day of service, read to Pre-K students, and hosted a school-wide blood drive. They were excited to have 10 FFA members and supporters volunteer at K-9 Battle Buddies, 26 student volunteers read to classes at the Liberty County Pre-K, and 27 students and staff members donate blood through the American Red Cross.
On Tuesday, February 18, chapter officers Tara White and Marissa Kemp were honored to represent Liberty County High School FFA at the annual FFA Day at the Capitol and legislative breakfast in Atlanta. Today’s FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. Through agricultural and hands-on learning, they are preparing for 255 unique career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry. The support of local and state legislators is imperative for a successful agriculture education program!
No FFA Week celebration would be complete without some great food. Chapter members enjoyed an FFA breakfast on Wednesday, complete with biscuits from the local Chick-fil-A. On Thursday, school supporters and members were highlighted with popsicles at lunch and pizza at an after school meeting. Because healthy lifestyles are imperative for great futures, the week wrapped up with a field day called the Ag Olympics to get students moving with lots of physical activity.
The Liberty County High School FFA Chapter currently has 124 members. National FFA Week is sponsored nationally by Tractor Supply Company. The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 1,027,273 student members who belong to one of 9,235 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization is also supported by over 700,000 alumni members throughout the U.S.
