The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that the deaths of a husband and wife found dead in their Gum Branch home has been ruled a murder-suicide.

The cause of death was determined after an autospy was completed by the GBI crime lab in Savannah.

Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes said the bodies of Billy Lupo, 53, and his wife Ashley, 35, were discovered at their home in the 100 block of Howard Road by a family member Thursday morning.

Sikes said the bodies were discovered about 9 a.m. by Lupo’s brother who called authorities.

Sikes said Lupo allegedly stabbed his wife several times and then shot her.  He then turned the weapon on himself.

It is believed the incident took place sometime Wednesday evening.
