Sikes Drug Bust

The Liberty County Narcotics Unit with assistance from the Liberty, Long and McIntosh County Special Response Teams, served a narcotics search warrant at 906 Fleming Loop Road, Oct. 11.

According to a release issued by the LCSO, minutes prior to executing the warrant, the resident, Mr. Lee Allen Edwards, was taken into custody. During the execution of the search warrant, Christina Carter, who was staying at the residence, was also taken into custody.

With the scene secured LCSO Sheriff Steve Sikes said the Detectives with the narcotics unit recovered large amounts of heroin and Methamphetamine along with 13 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Sikes said they also arrested Thomas Logan Edwards following a probation search of his residence at 900 Fleming Loop.

Lee Allen Edwards was charged with two counts of trafficking Methamphetamine, one count of trafficking heroin, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, sales of Methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Thomas Logan Edwards was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property, crossing a state guard line and possession of marijuana.

Christina Carter was charged with trafficking Methamphetamine, trafficking heroin, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

The Sheriff said this is an active investigation with additional warrants forthcoming.

The Courier staff has noted that the address of 906 Fleming Loop Road was the same home where a shooting occurred in May 20. John Evers, 51 died as a result of that shooting. Edwards, named above, suffered a wound to the left hand.

According to Stewart Cottingham, Supervisory Inspector, United States Marshall’s Services Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, one of the two suspects, Christopher Grass was arrested June 12 on a murder warrant for the homicide of Evers. Cottingham said Grass was spotted leaving a residence which was under surveillance in Port Wentworth and followed to a residence in Garden City where he was arrested without incident.

Grass is facing charges for aggravated assault, murder, and home invasion.

The murder charge stems from an allegation Grass was involved in the home invasion which led to the death of Evers following a gun fight by the home owner who, according to Liberty County authorities, was defending his home.

Dustin Lax, a Savannah resident, has been charged with murder, assault and home invasion in the same alleged home invasion on Fleming Loop Road in Liberty County.
