Liberty County School System announced at 3:21 a.m. Tuesday morning that schools will be closed today to staff and students.
"No one should report as previously announced last evening," the press release said.
Monday night, LCSS said in a release schools would be open.
Liberty County Schools will open Tuesday to prepare students for the mandated closure of schools from March 18-31.
Here's the press release issued Monday night.
Today, Governor Brian Kemp mandated that all school systems in the state of Georgia
close by Wednesday, March 18, 2020 and remain closed through the end of March. In order to make sure
that our students are not losing instructional time and to effectively implement our digital learning plan,
we are asking students and teachers to report to school on the previously planned holiday, Tuesday,
March 17, 2020 for a regular school day. Teachers will use this time to issue iPads to students and work
with the students to prepare them on digital learning expectations. This will also give students the chance
to pick up any personal items that were left in schools. Buses will run normal routes to transport students
to and from school. As a reminder, after tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, all Liberty County Schools
will be closed through the end of March and instruction will be delivered online. Thank you for your
cooperation and understanding so we can ensure our students get the best education possible in these
difficult times. Continue to check the Liberty County School System website and Peachjar page for
Digital Learning and system updates.
