Liberty NAACP to host holiday event

On Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, Mr. Graylan Quarterman, President of the Liberty County NAACP, will host the Annual Holiday Celebration for members only and their guests.  The event is at Dorchester Academy and Museum, 8787 East Oglethorpe Highway, from 6:30-9 pm.  To RSVP, contact Wanda Washington at washingtonwd@yahoo.com.  Membership applications will be accepted that night.    

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is America’s oldest and largest civil rights organization.  It was established in February 1909, by an interracial group of activists.  The mission of the NAACP is to provide guidance for political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The NAACP has more than 2,200 branches and some half a million members worldwide.  

The Liberty County NAACP was founded in 1952, and the organization’s first president was Ralph Waldo Quarterman, who served from 1952 to 1959 and again from 1962 to 1964. The Branch is very active in the Liberty County community and supports the youth.  Every year it provide annual scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
