Morieo DeWight Austin was handed a life sentence, with the possibility of parole, for his role in a 2021 shooting death.

A Liberty County Superior Court jury returned a guilty verdict on Austin last week for one count of malice murder for the July 2021 shooting death of Malik Golden. Austin was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Mark Hendrix.

A three-day trial culminated June 18. The jury returned not guilty verdicts on felony murder, armed robbery and possession of a knife or firearm during commission of a crime.
