Local Boat Captain Recognized for Dedication to the Boating Community
Jim Givens

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Capt. Jim Givens – owner of both Sea Tow Savannah and Sea Tow Saint Catherines, your local on-water assistance providers – was recently recognized with Sea Tow’s “Shipmate” award for his dedication and commitment to the boating community.  Givens received the award during Sea Tow Services International’s annual meeting, which was held virtually this year due to COVID-19.

The Shipmate Award is presented annually to the Sea Tow Captain who most exemplifies enthusiasm, a supporting attitude and a willingness to help his fellow captains and other boaters.

Sea Tow President Kristen Frohnhoefer said Givens’ dedication to the boating community made him a perfect choice for this year’s award.

“Jim has been an incredible steward to the boating industry for years,” Frohnhoefer said. “His willingness to always help his fellow captains and boaters in general is admirable. We’re thankful to have him within our network of wonderful captains.”

Givens has owned the Saint Catherines franchise since 2004 and Savannah since 2006. Over the years he has not only assisted hundreds of boaters, but also opened eight Life Jacket Loaner Stations in the area. The stations make life jackets in a variety of sizes available for boaters in the community to borrow free of charge for a day out on the water.

“This award is truly an honor,” Givens said. “Being a Sea Tow Captain is my job and this is what I love to do. Being recognized in this way makes it extra sweet.”
