The concept of “half price Fridays” is simple: Every Friday, the newspapers’ Web sites will feature a different local business. By clicking on the advertisement, customers are sent to a secured online payment site where they can purchase coupons for half the price of the redeemable value — customers will pay $25 for a $50 gift card. Essentially, customers receive twice their money’s worth.
As consumers look to get more value for their money, the coupons, which feature restaurants, movie theaters and other local businesses, are helpful when trying to stick to a budget. “It really helps the community,” said Tricia Moore, Coastal Courier online sales representative.
The only requirement is that customers must purchase the coupons online. They aren’t available by going into the stores or by phone. The buying period begins each Friday at 8 a.m. and lasts until the cards are sold out. Opportunity is limited as each advertiser provides only fifty half-price gift cards.
Some of the upcoming featured businesses include Baldinos, Southern Image, Michael’s Deli and Seafood and What’s the Scoop Café. There also are a few remaining coupons available for Beef O Brady’s, which was featured on the Web site Friday.
This program benefits consumers and local businesses who choose to partner with the news organizations. In exchange for honoring the half-price gift cards, each establishment receives a free advertising packet that includes both Web and print ads.
“The package has no impact on the advertising budget,” Moore said. “It’s kind of a bartering system to help the community.”
