$800 a day for interim school superintendent
LibertyCountySchools

Dr. Franklin Perry has taken the job of interim superintendent for the Liberty County School System Thursday June 1.
According to his contract, obtained by the Coastal Courier, Perry will be paid $800 per day he works and will be provided an additional $2,000 for “living expenses or other transition expenses.”
He will serve until Aug. 31 or until the new superintendent starts, whichever comes first.
If a new superintendent isn’t found by Aug. 31 then Perry’s contract will continue on a month-to-month basis.
At $800 per day, on 10-hour days Monday through Thursday because the school district is on a modified summer schedule, by the end of August Perry will have been paid approximately $52,000.
His duties include all the functions of superintendent such as acting as executive office and secretary of the school board, participating in all business meetings and providing recommendations.
Perry was approved as interim superintendent in 5-0 vote during a special called meeting May 26. Board members Marcus Scott IV and Marcia Anderson were not in attendance.
Perry will serve during the district’s search for a new superintendent through the Georgia School Board Association.
The previous superintendent, Dr. Valya Lee, left the system in May due to a “mutual agreement” with the board following months of controversy surrounding former finance officer Roger Reese and an ongoing confrontation with Scott.
