OMI workers Wednesday installed the first of 15 new bus shelters at the Live Oak Public Library Hinesville Branch bus stop on Memorial Drive.
“That’s a popular spot because kids go there for the summer reading program, and they’ve got a very popular reading program there,” Liberty Transit special projects and governmental coordinator Debra Attical said. “A lot of those riders also go to work on Fort Stewart or in the local hotels.”
The organization is awaiting Georgia Department of Transportation location approval for the remaining shelters. Two larger shelters likely will be installed at the Liberty Regional Medical Center and Winn Army Community Hospital transfer locations, and 12 others will be at other high-traffic ridership points. The shelters were fully funded under the $1.2 million Liberty Transit portion awarded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
