JESUP — Georgia Department of Transportation Southeast District Maintenance Office reminds citizens that placing signs or other objects in the state’s right-of-way is illegal.

A GDOT news release says it is seeing a lot of campaign signs along state roads this election season..

It’s not unusual for GDOT employees to remove several hundred signs during an election year, said Robert McCall, district maintenance engineer.

“We store the signs at our local routine maintenance headquarters for 30 days and give the owners an opportunity to reclaim them,” he said.
The laws authorizes fines of up to $1,000 and/or 12 months in jail for violations.
