City probes IT failure

The city's computer system went down Tuesday and was reportedly mostly restored within a couple days.

An investigation into what slowed or shut down IT services Tuesday for the city of Hinesville continues, officials said.

City Manager Kenneth Howard said that despite "multiple levels of redundancy to protect against outages of this magnitude," this is the first time "a problem of this nature has occurred."

"We are in the process of investigating the problem as well as solutions," Howard said.

The outage has impacted the city’s ability to receive payments, job applications and more.

There was no information about possible data loss.
