Liberty County Board Commissioners discussed important policies and decisions that will have to be finalized soon during their planning workshop earlier today at the MidCoast Regional Airport.
They received a water system update from Matthew Barrow, civil engineer at P.C. Simonton and Associates, who suggested using potential grant funds to expand water lines and gain more customers.
Commissioners were asked by County Administrator Joey Brown and Kim McGlothlin, the county’s chief financial officer, to consider refinancing three main bonds for the county: the MidCoast Regional Airport runway extension, Justice Center and Hinesville City Hall. Refinancing to a lower interest rate will allow for additional savings, which can be reinvested in existing projects.
Commissioners discussed what they thought should be on the November Special Purpose Local Options Sale Tax referendum. They looked at a list of possible projects, options to completely pay off bonded debts and timelines to pay those debts. Commissioners will hold multiple meetings to narrow down the list of SPLOST projects for the referendum.
Other topics of discussion included capital improvement projects, changes to the county personnel policy and video taping of minutes.
