JESUP — The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to suspend all scheduled and ongoing construction-related lane closures on state routes and interstates for the Memorial Day Holiday period.

The suspension begins at noon Friday and continues through 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 29.

“Emergency maintenance work in the case of traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents could still cause lane closures and/or delays” Karon Ivery, district DOT engineer here, said. “We anticipate that a lot of people will be traveling on the roadways for the holiday weekend and we would like to make it a little easier for them to arrive at their destination in a safe and timely matter.”

Travelers are advised to visit www.511ga.org or call 511 on any phone for free, real-time traffic information. Traveler information is also available at a toll-free number for callers from outside the state, 1-877-MYGA511.
