Fire destroys home

A Walthourville family lost their home in an early Thursday fire, according to Walthourville Police Chief Tracy McFadden.

The two adults and a child were able to escape without injury; however, the family’s pet dog did not make it, according to people at the scene.

The fire started shortly before 5 a.m. The wood-frame structure in the 100 block of Kent Road was engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived, McFadden said.

Firefighters from Walthourville and Hinesville fire departments responded to the call.
