Hinesville man running to be Clinton delegate

JESUP — The Democratic Party of Georgia will elect district delegates on April 16 for the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Democrats registered to vote in the First Congressional District will elect five delegates to represent the district at the national convention July 25-28 in Philadelphia.

"Attending the Democratic National Convention is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Frances Zwenig, the 1st Congressional District Democratic chairwoman, said in a statement. "We look forward to joining Democrats from across the country to celebrate our party’s vision for the future and to nominate the next president of the United States."

Any interested Democrats are invited to the district meeting, which will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church, 401 W. Pine St. in Jesup.

Attendees will elect two women and two men to run as delegates for former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and one woman to run as a delegate for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. Running for election as Clinton delegates are Jimmy Burke of Waycross, Tawanna Garrett of Savannah, Audrey Gibbons of Brunswick, Joseph Inge Jr. of Hinesville, Alvin Leaphart of Jesup, Beverly Leaphart of Jesup, Bryan Reese of Savannah, Felicia Halton Thomas of Savannah and Gwendolyn Waring of Savannah. Running for election as a Sanders delegate are Lisa Ring of Richmond Hill and Vanessa Rivera of Savannah.
