February is Black History Month, a month during which Americans traditionally recognize contributions to society made by African Americans. This is something that Hinesville District 2 Councilmember David Anderson is proud to see take place.
"I think the story of African Americans needs to be told," he said. "Many people aren’t aware because it was left out of the history books in schools."
Anderson will speak at 9:30 a.m. today at Woodruff Theater on Fort Stewart for the 118th Infantry Brigade’s black history program. The event is open to the public, and 188th IN BDE falls under First Army, Division East stationed out of Fort Meade, Md., according to Sfc. Tiffany Moore.
Hinesville Mayor James Thomas will be the guest speaker at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Savannah Technical College Liberty Campus’ black history program. The event will be in the student center on Airport Road.
