The Liberty Initiative for Community Housing Committee will sponsor a housing summit Thursday at the Performing Arts Center, 2140 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Flemington.

The summit will consist of two sessions, the first one from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the second from 4-7 p.m. The summit’s theme is "Housing for All," and the goal is to educate prospective and current homeowners on various housing topics.

Representatives from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Consumer Credit Counseling, JC Vision and financial institutions will be present. Vendors will set up tables and disseminate information, and there will be four breakout workshops per session. There are eight jurisdictions within Liberty County with median home values ranging from $71,000 to $151,800. The committee is dedicated to providing citizens with the information they need to provide them the best chance to live affordably.

April is Fair Housing Month, and the committee wants to celebrate this month by providing housing resources in one central location. The housing summit is one of several events that the Liberty Initiative for Community Housing team has planned. Established in 2015, the committee was formed from a county-wide effort after Liberty County was designated as a Georgia Initiative for Community Housing community by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The committee is dedicated to strengthening the community through collaboration to promote safe, affordable and sanitary housing for all.
