Long County residents will kick off December by celebrating the holiday season at several planned events. The fun begins Saturday with the Long County Christmas Parade, hosted by the chamber of commerce. Floats and marchers will line up for the procession at 1 p.m. at Long County High School. Entries will be judged at 1:15, and the parade starts at 2. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance afterward at the Ludowici Well Pavilion, where children can make their Christmas requests and pose for photos with Santa. Entry forms for the parade are available at Town & Country Beauty Shop and the courthouse annex building. For more information, call Gaynelle Garrason at 545 2606 or Beverly Johnson at 258-1108.
After watching the parade and visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus, community members can take in the Miss Christmas Holiday Pageant at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The pageant is open to babies, girls and ladies of all ages. Winners will be named in each age bracket and in the prettiest smile, prettiest dress and all-over event categories. The age divisions are baby, toddler, tiny, petite, pre-teen, junior miss, miss and Ms./Mrs.  The entry fee for the pageant is $50. There also will be a people’s choice queen and a miss hospitality queen; entry for these events is separate. The contestant who brings in the most are unwrapped toys, valued at a minimum of $5 each, will be crowned the hospitality queen. Admission to the pageant is $5 at the door or a donation of one $5 unopened toy. All toys gathered at the pageant will go to the Wingman MC Toy Drive to help local families. Entries for the pageant must be received no later than Friday.  For more information, call Kelli Mock at 294-0145 or Linda Futch at 294-2386.
On Dec. 8, the annual Long County and Ludowici Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at the Ludowici Well Pavilion. The fun-filled night begins at 7 p.m. with cookies, cocoa and coffee, followed by live entertainment provided by the Ludowici First Baptist Church Children’s Choir. The event is being sponsored by the Long County Chamber of Commerce, County Line Barn, Kadee’s Korner and The Heritage Bank.  For more information, call Karen Waters at 408-2276 or Tim Works at 271-3013.
