Ludowici City Councilman A.A. “Zip” Billings, 91, died Tuesday night in Savannah from congestive heart failure, according to Ludowici City Clerk Tara Manning.

Billings was admitted into Memorial Health University Medical Center on Saturday but died from complications Tuesday evening at around 8:30 p.m.

Manning said Billings had been serving on the city council since 2000 and also had been a member prior to that after a lapse in service.

According to Mayor Myrtice Warren, Billings lived in Ludowici for most of his life and serv-ed the city faithfully as a council-
man.

“Zip worked good with the city council,” Warren said. “He always did what he thought was best, and he served the city for a long time.

“Before he was elected again in 2000, he had been on the council several years.

“When he got back on this last time, he was getting up there in age but he still always tried to do a good job and was a faithful servant to Ludowici.”
