The Midway city council suspended Police Chief Kelli Morningstar for three days without pay and reprimanded Finance Director Gwendolyn Lowe on Monday during a called meeting.

The two disciplinary measures are apparently unrelated.

Lowe is being reprimanded for actions at a recent budget meeting, while Morningstar is being suspended for insubordination, according to separate motions voted on by the three council members present, Curtes Roberts, Levern Clancy Jr. and Stanley Brown. All three voted in favor of the two disciplinary measures.

Councilwoman Melice Gerace did not attend the meeting.

It’s unclear when Morningstar’s suspension will take effect or who will run the department in her absence.

Further details were not immediately available Monday.
