Traffic stop leads to drugs, weapons arrest
crime

The Walthourville Police Department and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Lonnie Bowman made a traffic stop at 6:30 p.m. Friday that ended up in the arrest of one suspect on cocaine and gun charges.

The charges filed against the suspect are a continuation of Operation Insider, which is an effort to stem the transportation of narcotics moving through Walthourville, police Chief Bernie Quarterman said.

The suspects arrested during the first phase of Operation Insider are not Walthourville residents.

"We will make every effort to prevent this poison from entering and being sold in our city," Quarterman said.

James Michael Field, 34, of Long County, was charged with possession of control substance and illegal possession of prescription medication, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and traffic violations.
