The Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau recently hosted a tour for Group Travel Leader Magazine, coordinated in conjunction with the Tourism Division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

The tour was March 26-27 and was for 14 tour operators from all over the United States. Cheryl Hargrove, GDEcD tourism project manager for the coast; Lacey Cameron, GDEcD Tourism Division domestic business development manager; Kelly Tyner, director of sales and marketing for The Group Travel Leader Inc. and Brian Jewel, executive editor of Group Travel Leader Magazine accompanied the group.

Program coordinator Amanda Scott and creative and content coordinator Erin Johnson led the tour for both days. The group visited the Midway Museum, Geechee Kunda Cultural Center, the Historic Baptismal Trail, historic Dorchester Academy and Dunham Farms. The group stayed overnight at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Flemington and ate dinner on Sunday night at the Sunbury Crab Co.

The LCCVB has already received some feedback from the tour through a survey the GDEcD sent to participants. Participants mentioned Liberty County specifically, requesting additional information about the sites they visited, and one group has already arranged a tour and fish fry at Geechee Kunda for August.

“The travel leaders that participated in this tour were looking for undiscovered gems that their clients would enjoy visiting,” LCCVB CEO Leah Poole said. “Liberty County has a wealth of history, as well as beautiful scenery, and we were very pleased with the positive reactions from the tour operators. We’re looking forward to welcoming future groups.”
