Two people have qualified as candidates in the special election for the District 6 seat on the Liberty County Board of Education.
Sharon Yvette Keel and Justin McCartney both paid the fee during the qualifying period, which took place from Wednesday through Friday.
The vacancy was created in February when Sampie Smith abruptly resigned, less than two months after taking his oath of office, citing “personal reasons.
Election Day is Tuesday, June 16, with advance voting beginning May 26. Look for more information on the two candidates in the Courier closer to the advance voting period.
