The cars were lined up on Gause Street from Central Avenue almost to the intersection of General Stewart Way on Monday morning, waiting for the signal to proceed to the bellowing of “one!” or “two!”
The Manna House, with help from 11 Black Men of Liberty County and several local fraternities and sororities, handed out turkeys and food baskets as part of its annual Thanksgiving giveaway.
“We come together and set up shop,” said Kameria Boston, president of the local Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority chapter.
The food drive has been going on for many years, and the local organizations join forces under the National Panhellenic Council umbrella to help out.
“This brings us together as sororities and fraternities,” Boston said.
The organizations also provide Thanksgiving baskets to senior citizens as part of their community service.
