ATLANTA — A Hinesville woman plans to deck out the holidays after winning thousands in the lottery.
Dutchess Caldwell, 32, won a $35,000 top prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Roll 'Em Up.
"I couldn't believe it," she said. "I told my best friend, and she was the first to congratulate me."
Caldwell works as a grocery cashier and has two children. She plans to buy them gifts for the holidays and a new car for herself.
"I will get them what they want," she said. "You don't know how much this means to me and my kids."
She bought the ticket at Liberty Square Package, 105 W. Henry St. in Hinesville.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
