DEXTER - For the second year in a row, the Long County competition cheerleading team will head back to Macon for the AAA state championship meet. On Saturday, November 8, the team competed in the sectionals at West Laurens High School.

The competition cheerleading team ended up finishing with a score of 80.5, just three and a half points behind Southeast Bulloch. This made them the Region 3-AAA runner- up for the second year in a row, but was good enough to place them in the top 16.

After a three-year hiatus, the competition cheerleading team was revived by head coach Haley Scofield in 2024. The team advanced to the state meet last year and just missed the top 10.

The team will look to break the top 10, something they have done once and not since 2018.

They will get their chance as they hit the mat on Saturday, November 15 in the state championship meet at the Macon Coliseum.

Competition for Class AAA teams begins at 10 a.m. GPB.org and NFHS Network will be carrying live streams.
