Christians from Long County met up recently to take part in the 2026 Georgia Bible Reading Day. According to Mike Riddle, who is the Long County chairman for the event, 17 people met up at the courthouse to read chapters 43-48 from the Book of Isaiah on July 14.

Riddle said every county in the state participated in the event, and that each county team was given a section of the Bible to read. He said that promptly at 7:14 a.m. representatives from every team began reading their assigned chapters. Once everyone read their portion, the entire Bible had been read.

“What a great thing to know that this morning when we all read our chapters, we were taking part in the reading of the entire Bible across our great state”, he said.

Churches represented at the gathering were Compass Worship Center Church of God, Calvary Baptist Church of Ludowici, Calvary Baptist Church of Jesup, First Baptist Church of Ludowici, and Faith Baptist Church of Ludowici.

After the Bible reading, many of those who were present then went to Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed a breakfast and fellowship together.

“We grandparents and parents tell our kids not to hang out with bad folks and instead do things with good people, but as adults, we often don’t listen to our own advice,” Riddle said. “There is nothing better that we can do, than for God-loving Bible-believing people to get together and share the Word, pray a bit, and enjoy a meal.”

Riddle said that this is an annual event, and he encourages every person in Long County to attend next year.

“We promoted the Bible Reading Day quite a bit this year, and we plan on doing that again next year,” he said.
