The Long County Blue Tide Rocket League team got its first playoff win on Monday, April 10. They took on the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets and the Racers dominated the Jackets from the start.

In the first round of the playoffs, the top 64 teams made up the field. All matches increased to seven-game series for Rocket League and the Racers took over early in Game 1.

Kaleb Driver scored the first goal less than a minute into the contest before fellow senior Brendan Mosley scored 40 seconds later.

Mosley helped freshman Isaac Garcia score the next goal less than 20 seconds later. The score stood at 3-0 until the 59-second mark in Game 1.

Garcia scored two more goals in 25 seconds to put the Racers up 5-0 and complete the flawless hat trick. Mosley and Driver each scored again over the last 30 seconds to give them a 7-0 win and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Game 2 was the only one that was competitive. The Jackets went up 1-0 at the 2:27 mark off a Racer save. Driver took an assist from Mosley to tie the game and scored 10 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead with a minute left.

The Racers looked to extend their lead but a hard shot off the back wall went awry as it bounded toward the Racer goal. The Jackets took the easy open goal shot to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left.

Time ran off the clock as the game went into overtime. Driver scored his third goal of the game 1:26 into the period to give the Racers the 3-2 win and 2-0 lead.

The Racers won the next two games 4-0 and 5-0. Garcia scored twice in Game 3 while Driver and Mosley both scored a goal each.

In Game 4, Garcia scored 11 seconds into the game off the opening kickoff. Driver scored off an assist from Garcia, who scored the third goal as the Racers went up 3-0 just 47 seconds into the game.

Mosley scored the final two goals of Game 5 as the Racers went on to the 4-0 set victory.

The Racers will take on Lambert High School on Wednesday, April 12 in the second round. The Longhorns are ranked seventh in the state while the Racers are ranked No. 26.
