A Long County woman has been charged with DUI and child endangerment after she allegedly pulled her vehicle into a driveway on Dorsey Road in Walthourville and passed out behind the wheel.

According to Walthourville Police Chief Al Hagan, the woman stopped into the driveway shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday Oct. 28, with two children in the back seat and was passed out when the homeowner went to investigate why she was there.

When an officer from the Walthourville Police Department and a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived, they reportedly discovered the woman asleep in the vehicle with the children in the back seat. Hagan said the officers discovered an empty container of alcohol and they allegedly smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath.

Hagan said they gave the woman a field sobriety test which she failed. She was placed under arrest and taken to the Liberty County Jail.

Hagan said this was the woman’s second DUI on record.  The children were taken to safety by a family member, he said.
