Main Street construction may cause delays

Road resurfacing on Main Street starts at 7 Friday evening, so Gary Gilliard a project manager with OMI, said residents need to be aware of changing road conditions.
Villager Construction is scheduled to start milling the surface on South Main from Gen. Screven to Deal Street on Friday and will finish early Saturday morning.
“People can still travel the road but we’re encouraging people to avoid it if possible,” Gilliard said. “Once it’s milled, they need to proceed with caution because it’s going to have ripples and ridges.”
He said because of the uneven surface, driver’s need to pay extra attention to speed and laws to stay safe.
“Travel will be different. But, maintain a good speed and everything should be fine,” Gilliard said.
Although the road will not be closed, he said drivers should be prepared for possible delays and stops while traveling along that route over the weekend.
The actual resurfacing will start at the beginning of next week and, according to Gilliard, should take about a week to complete.
