Liberty County Fire Services

A man was killed June 27 while boating on Jones Creek.

According to Liberty County Services Fire Chief Brian Darby and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, DNR game wardens responded to a single vessel boating incident on Jones Creek around 8:15 p.m. The vessel was occupied by an adult male, later identified as Josh Gill Sr., and his two children, a 16-year-old and a 2-year-old.

As Gill was going under the Jones Creek bridge on Isle of Wight, his head struck the bridge. His 16-year-old son drove the boat to the nearest dock to seek help.

Darby said fire units from Islands Highway and twin ambulance units arrived and performed CPR but were unable to resuscitate the victim.
