Bank of America, trustee for the Margaret L. Martin Charitable Foundation, is pleased to award 25 college scholarships to graduates of the Liberty County School System.
The foundation was the culmination of the desire of Mr. and Mrs. Martin to provide a lasting benefit to the charitable organizations and the young people of the community they called home. After leading successful careers — Mr. Martin as president of The Hinesville (now Heritage) Bank and Mrs. Martin as the civilian personnel director on Fort Stewart and later as owner of the Martin Insurance Agency — they chose to repay their community by establishing the Margaret L. Martin Charitable Foundation.
Both Donald and Margaret Martin deemed the arts and education to be of utmost importance. The Martins designated foundation beneficiaries that reflected their personal interests, including Flemington Presbyterian Church, Midway Church and Society, the Liberty County Historical Society, Midway Museum, Liberty County Library, Liberty County United Way, Hinesville Area Arts Council, the LeConte-Woodmanston Project, and the local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Since the Martin scholarship’s inception in 1995, nearly $7 million has been awarded in scholarships to graduates of the Liberty County School System.
To qualify, students must meet rigorous academic standards, excel in an interview with members of the foundation’s scholarship committee, and meet residency requirements. The initial award is in the amount of $5,000 and is renewable for three successive years upon maintenance of a “B” average in a four-year college or nursing school.
The scholarship committee is pleased to congratulate the following scholarship recipients:
