Hinesville Mayor Karl Riles, Liberty County Schools Superintendent Debra Frazier, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Zheadric Barbra and Bradwell Institute administrators interim Principal Dr. Mary Ryan, Dr. Valeria Richard and Ty Randolph celebrate the mayor’s signing of the Red Ribbon Week proclamation.
Red Ribbon Week is part of the National Red Ribbon campaign, designed to lead children to a drug-free lifestyle.
“Cool people do not do drugs,” said Dr. Zheadric Barbara, deputy superintendent of the Liberty County School System.
Students also could sign a pledge to remain drug free.
Red Ribbon Week got its start following the 1985 death of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico. Friends and neighbors began wearing red satin badges in his honor following his death.
