Meeting aims at regional plan

Tuesday there will be a public meeting in Midway, an effort to finish up the Coastal Comprehensive Plan that was to have been in Gov. Sonny Purdue’s hands by Sept. 30.
The session — 6-8 p.m. at the Midway Civic Center — is part of the third group of public sessions held by the Department of Community Affairs and a committee appointed by the governor. The panel was asked to build on the DNR coastal management plan and broaden its scope to create a multi-agency comprehensive plan for sustainable economic development without compromising the natural appeal that attracts coastal visitors.
Local committee members include Liberty County Commission Chairman John McIver, Hinesville Mayor Tom Ratcliffe, Midway Mayor Don Emmons and Paul Michael, the director of land resources for the Hampton Island development.
