Midway Police Chase Ends In Fiery Wreck

Two men are under arrest following a chase by the Midway police department Wednesday morning.


According to Midway Police Officer, Mark Rich, a driver operating a silver Dodge Avenger attempted to pass several vehicles that had been stopped while a cable company was pulling cable across the intersection of Lake Gale and East Oglethorpe Highway around 11 a.m.


Rich said he spotted the vehicle attempting to pass the stopped vehicles and attempted to detain the driver. The driver identified as Denver Austin Green drove around Rich’s patrol car and drove his vehicle onto Martin Road with speeds reaching upwards of 109 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. Rich once again tried to block Green’s vehicle with no success. Green allegedly drove onto East Oglethorpe Highway allegedly driving 107 mph. Rich executed a Pit maneuver in an attempt to stop Green at the intersection of Robinson Street and East Oglethorpe while Liberty County deputies attempted to block Green’s vehicle. Rich said Green was able to allude officers and got back onto East Oglethorpe driving allegedly over 100 mph. According to Rich Green attempted to turn onto Edgewater Drive at a high rate of speed damaging a newly erected sign and damaging the oil pan under his vehicle. The car continued for several feet till it came to a stop and catching on fire. Green and his passenger identified as Mikel Allen Green exited the vehicle in an attempt to allude police. Both men were captured before they were able to enter the wood line. Rich said Denver Green is facing a felony reckless driving charge as well fleeing and eluding. Mikel Green is obstruction by hinderance charges. Both men are currently at the Liberty County jail. Additional charges are expected to be filed. The Greens are siblings.
